The Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, permitted the Yowana (younger generations) to carry out the Ogoh-Ogoh parade.
The Ogoh-Ogoh Parade is a very famous ancient Balinese tradition. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been postponed.
This is a huge step in the right direction for Bali, in preserving the culture and creativity Bali has always offered.
The decision was taken by the governor after coordinating and communicating with the village’s heads and the general secretary or village treasurer of the Bali province customary village council (MDA).
Koster said that Yowana in Bali should not have any doubts about the permit to hold an Ogoh-Ogoh parade, an Ogoh-Ogoh is permitted to be paraded in the surrounding areas with a maximum of 25 Yowana.
In addition – Ogoh-Ogoh must be environmentally friendly without plastic and styrofoam materials.
The events must follow the following health protocols :
- Wear masks
- Have full doses of COVID-19 vaccination
- Hand sanitizer provided
- Antigen tests were taken (this will be provided free of charge by the Bali Provincial Health Office).
Koster also said that he admires the younger generation of Bali’s artistic, innovative, and creative works, as well as the character-building and spirit of art and culture in the Ogoh-Ogoh that were created.
What is Nyepi – Bali’s Famous Silent Day?
There will be a competition for the best work for the three Ogoh-Ogoh in each sub-district to compete for the ranking prize.
In total there will be 3 rankings for all districts and cities in Bali.
The result?
The three best Ogoh-Ogoh will be awarded IDR 5 million each at the sub-district level.
In all regencies and cities in Bali,
- The first-place winner will receive a prize of Rp50 million.
- The second-place winner will receive a prize of Rp35 million.
- The third-place winner will receive a prize of Rp25 million.
With the prize pool totaling nearly IDR 1.9 billion!
This will be reviewed by the judges who will visit each Banjar (neighborhood) to evaluate the Ogoh-Ogoh. What is judged is not the competition, but the work of the Ogoh-Ogoh, based on creativity and innovation.
This year, Nyepi falls on 3rd March 2022.
